Sensitive videos of Korean artists, among other victims, face risk of being leaked from a cosmetic surgery clinic
A shocking revelation surfaces as over 30 patients’ private footage from a cosmetic surgery clinic in Gangnam is under threat of being exposed. Among the victims are famous K-artists.
On March 6th, JTBC reported that the video clips from the camera of a cosmetic surgery clinic in Gangnam were leaked online. The leaked videos tallied up to 31 videos and were worth of 1.5GB.
The videos were recorded in a period of 5 days, from February 24th, containing images of patients changing clothes and undergoing treatment. Among the victims were celebrities.
Moreover, according to JBC’s report, the website leaking the 31 videos had a high risk of spreading as the users have access to uploading and downloading with a simple click.
JTBC has sent all the collected video evidence from an anonymous source to the authority for investigation. The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is looking into how the process of leaking took place.
Sadly, this isn’t the first instance of such privacy breaches in Korea. Just last year, the infamous “Nth Room” case involving Cho Joo Bin shook the entire country when he was charged with blackmail, forced nude-taking, and sexual harassment. Shin Se Kyung and Apink’s Bomi were also victims of the group chat, as reported by Wikitree.
The impact of illegally distributed videos on their victims cannot be understated. According to a survey conducted by the Korean Women’s Development Institute on 2,000 victims of illegal recording and other sexual crimes, 23% of the respondents expressed a desire to commit suicide, and 16% had already made plans to do so. The psychological and emotional toll on these individuals is immense, and their privacy must be protected at all costs.
It is high time for the authorities to take strict measures to prevent such incidents from happening again. The privacy of individuals, especially those in the public eye, must be respected and protected, and the perpetrators behind these heinous crimes must be brought to justice. Let’s hope that swift action is taken to ensure that justice is served, and such incidents don’t occur in the future.
