Recently on August 9, an SMTOWN LIVE concert was held at Tokyo Dome, Japan. Here, Leeteuk asked the crowd to clap for former RIIZE member Seunghan at the end of the SMTOWN LIVE show.
Previously in 2023, Seunghan was forced to leave RIIZE due to controversies over his personal life, even facing strong protest from fans and mourning wreaths sent to the company. He later became a solo artist under SM, but many did not take kindly to his return to activities, leading to mixed reactions.
In particular, while many showed support, leaving comments such as “Seunghan reflected on his past actions, so I hope he succeeds”, and “I hope he finds success as a solo artist”, others wrote scathing words such as “ They freaking ruined the show with his” and “Being asked to clap for such a guy make me mad”.
On Korean forum Instiz, most express their support, but another topic quickly prompted further debate.
Specifically, on the same day as the SMTOWN LIVE concert, a topic titled “Did they ignore Seunghan’s greetings” was published on Instiz. Said topic included a GIF where Seunghan can be seen greeting NCT Wish’s Riku and NCT’s Doyoung, both of whom allegedly did not great him back.
This leads to controversial reactions, with many finding it weird that seniors to Seunghan would react in such a way, saying that they should at least return the greetings and even call the duo “the worst”.
However, according to many fans, the aforementioned GIF is intentionally misleading, and in the full video, it can be clearly seen that Doyoung greeted Seunghan while Riku was playfully interacting with the former RIIZE member and even patted his back.
“I wish people stop this micro analyzing idol’s interaction”, a fan wrote in frustration against the harsh comments directed at Doyoung and Riku
