Right on EXO’s 10th anniversary, Lay suddenly announced his departure from SM

The latest announcement from Lay makes EXO fans extremely shocked.

On the morning of April 8 (KST), Lay (EXO) posted a handwritten letter on his SNS. Specifically, the only Chinese EXO member left – Lay, announced that he would be leaving SM Entertainment, at the same time, expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and fans.

Lay’s full letter is as follows:

“Ten years of growth. Thank you all.

Thank you to my EXO brothers for your company and encouragement.

Thanks to my colleagues at SM for witnessing every step of my growth and achievement.

Thank you to all my fans for your unconditional love and support.
It’s time to say goodbye as an employee of SM.

It’s also my new beginning as a 30-year-old.

But I will always be the Lay when my members need me.

I’m your family member in China, Zhang Yixing.

Love you forever.

EXO, Let’s love.”

Today (April 8) is also EXO‘s 10th debut anniversary.  While fans and other members were happily celebrating their anniversary, Lay’s sudden announcement caused an unimaginable shock to fans and the public.

Meanwhile, EXO debuted on April 8, 2012 under the management of SM Entertainment. Initially, the group consisted of 12 members divided into two subgroups: EXO-K and EXO-M. The 3 Chinese members, Luhan, Kris, and Tao, later left the group after noisy lawsuits with SM Ent. Lay then was the only Chinese member of EXO left until today.
