Reporter introduces the discography of girl group Six Bomb who spent 100 million won on plastic surgery for their concept

Six Bomb tried to make a breakthrough by doing plastic surgery to match their shocking concept but eventually failed.

Reporter Kim Hyung Sik introduced the CD “Getting Prettier” released by the girl group Six Bomb in March 2017.

It’s a single album that includes “Getting Pretty Before” and the b-side song “Getting Pretty After”. The fact that the members actually spent a total of 100 million won on plastic surgery to become prettier and match the song’s title actually created a hot topic back then.

Six Bomb attracted keen attention for their shocking concept. About a year before releasing “Getting Pretty”, the group gained the nickname “Pink Sausages” when performing the song “Wait 10 Years Baby” wearing full-pink tight outfits.

“Getting Pretty” was a project ambitiously prepared by Six Bomb to continue their shocking concept. During an interview at that time, the members shared, “Amidst intense competition, we believed that creating a little issue with attract people to listen to our song”, adding, “We thought about what we could change about our appearance to match the song’s title, and decided to do plastic surgery. We underwent plastic surgery about four months before the comeback.”

Explaining the intention of the concept, they said, “It is also a song that reflects the social atmosphere that values appearance”, adding, “Many people in this era want to become prettier and more attractive, right? We created a kitschy song that expresses the hearts of those who want to become prettier and cooler in a fun way”.

Regarding the negative gaze of the public, Six Bomb members showed a relaxed attitude, saying, “Hate comments are still better than no comments. We have endured hate comments since we wore the ‘Pink Sausage’ outfit during the previous promotion, and it’s fine now because all the members are mentally strong”. Introducing their figure skater concept outfits, the members pleasantly said, “When we were wearing the ‘Pink Sausage’ outfits, we felt very frustrated because there was no ventilation at all. This time the outfits have better ventilation.”

However, the members kept the details of the parts they did plastic surgery a secret. When asked about it, the members just smiled and said, “You can roughly guess what it is when watching the music video.”

Among the two songs in the single, “Getting Pretty Before” is a song with an unexpected charm and peculiar addictive sounds. It revolves around the feelings of a woman who is preparing to become prettier. The song has a fresh and emotional melody that excites listeners, and the strong EDM sounds in each chorus section are also impressive.

Six Bomb released this song on music streaming platforms one month earlier than “Becoming Prettier After”, and once again captured the public’s attention with their shocking group image on the cover photo that shows the members’ faces being wrapped with bandages. In the music video, you can also see the members visiting a plastic surgery clinic for consultation.

The following song, “Getting Pretty After” is an energetic EDM dance track that deals with the increased self-esteem and popularity of women after undergoing plastic surgery. Repeating the EDM sounds in the chorus of “Getting Pretty Before”, this song created a double track.

To express the confidence of a woman after doing plastic surgery, both the lyrics and melody are full of energy. The repetitive lyrics of “You’re pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty” is also addictive. At the time of the song release, Six Bomb’s agency emphasized that they aimed to make it sound fun and kitschy like Psy’s “Gangnam Style”. The members also introduced it as a lively song that showcases Six Bomb’s unique charm.

During an interview at that time, Six Bomb shared, “We topped the Gaon Chart (currently Circle Chart)’s Social Chart once with ‘Wait 10 Years, Baby’”, adding “This time, we want to top the Digital Chart”. Unfortunately, Six Bomb did not receive significant responses for the songs in “Getting Pretty” and ended their activities.

Starting as a six-member group, Six Bomb faced member changes several times. At the time of the interview for “Getting Pretty”, the group had only 4 members (Dain, Soa, Seulbi, Gabin). However, Seulbi and Gabin left the group the following year. Afterward, Six Bomb continued their activities as a three-member group after adding the new member Isol. They released several more singles then went on a long hiatus after releasing the last single “Your Neighborhood” in November 2018. Six Bomb disbanded in 2021.
