Red Velvet Wendy joins the cast of musical play “Rebecca”, 1st theatrical challenge

Wendy, a member of girl group Red Velvet, will join the cast of the 10th Anniversary performance for musical play “Rebecca”. 

According to an Expo News coverage on June 19th, Wendy of Red Velvet has been cast in the 10th anniversary of the musical play “Rebecca”, which will open in August.

In particular, Wendy will play the role of “I” and showcase her acting and singing skills. “I” is a character who transforms from a delicate and innocent girl into a strong and determined woman.

Meanwhile, Wendy, who debuted as a member of girl group Red Velvet in 2014, has gained a lot of love for hit songs such as “Ice Cream Cake,” “Dumb Dumb,” “Russian Roulette,” “Rookie,” “Red Flavor,” “Peek-A-Boo,” “Psycho,” and “Feel My Rhythm.”

After debuting for 10 years, Wendy has taken on a new challenge with the 10th-anniversary performance of “Rebecca”. Previously, the female idol has showcased her versatile talents in various fields such as drama OSTs, hosting, animation dubbing, and radio DJing, raising expectations for the charms she will bring to the musical stage.

Meanwhile, the musical “Rebecca”, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, is based on a novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier. The story revolves around Maxim DeWinter, who is traumatized by the death of his former wife Rebecca, and his naive new wife, who is referred to simply as “I”. Here, “I” confronts Mrs. Danvers, the housekeeper who idolizes the deceased Rebecca, resents “I”, and dominates the estate, at the same time solving various mysterious events.

First premiered in Austria in 2006, “Rebecca” was adapted to suit the Korean audience in 2013, eventually becoming a “mega hit” production.

In fact, the play’s original authors, Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay, praised the Korean stage as “the best in the world”
