“Reborn Rich” actor Song Joong Ki, “The drama airs 3 episodes a week? JTBC, please make lots of money”
The production team and cast revealed their thoughts on the unusual broadcast of “Reborn Rich” with 3 episodes a week.
The press conference for JTBC’s Fri-Sat-Sun drama “Reborn Rich” (written by Kim Tae Hee/ directed by Jung Dae Yoon) was held at Fairmont Ambassador Hotel Seoul Hotel in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu on November 17th. Director Jung Dae Yoon, actors Song Joong Ki, Lee Sung Min and Shin Hyun Been attended the event and talked about their work.
“Reborn Rich” is a fantasy revenge drama that centers around Yoon Hyun Woo (Song Joong Ki), a secretary in charge of risk management for a chaebol family, who lives his second life after being reincarnated as Jin Do Joon, the youngest son of that chaebol family. Based on a web novel of the same name, the drama version was written by Kim Tae Hee, who created the stories of “Designated Survivor: 60 Days”, “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, etc., and new screenwriter Jang Eun Jae. Director Jung Dae Yoon of “W” and “She Was Pretty” took the megaphone and direct this series.
Earlier, “Reborn Rich” production team drew attention when announcing their plans of airing three episodes a week on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In this regard, director Jung Dae Yoon said, “To be honest, I wondered if it would be too much for a drama to air 3 episodes a week at first. I’ve never seen such a kind of broadcast arrangement”. Director Jung explained, “But isn’t OTT releasing all episodes of each drama at once? I wondered if the viewers nowadays prefer immersing in series that way. It might be a nice broadcasting method that goes well with the recent trend”.
Song Joong Ki expressed his opinion, saying “It was surprised by the fresh idea of airing 3 broadcasts a week. However, it didn’t make me think much”. He continued, “It wasn’t that surprising to me since everything that’s going on in this industry will keep changing rapidly. I think the decision must have been made after deep discussions between broadcasting officials who understand this issue better than us”. The actor added, “I personally thought ‘Lots of advertisements must have been sold?’. JTBC, please make lots of money”.
Lee Sung Min shared, “I recently did a movie and an OTT drama, and I have the same idea as Joong Ki”, adding “The audience’s taste in viewing movies and drama shave changed a lot these days. I’ve also been wondering about the reason, but I can see many people enjoy watching 8 episodes continuously, and some wait until dramas, which air 2 episodes a week, end to watch it at once. Therefore, I think JTBC is making a new attempt.”
Actress Shin Hyun Been also said, “I wondered if there was any drama with the same situation, then I found out there are many OTT series that introduce two episodes a day or release all episodes at once. I think it would be more fun to watch three episodes a week since our drama can also be found on OTT”.
“Reborn Rich” will premiere at 10:30 p.m on November 18th.
