Who is Taeil?
Taeil. whose full name is Moon Tae-il, was born on June 14, 1994. He was the oldest member of famous K-pop boy group NCT, and served as a main vocalist in the group.
On August 28, 2024, SM Entertainment released a statement stating that Taeil was no longer a part of NCT as he is being investigated for criminal cases related to sexual offenses.

Taeil’s Basic Information
Taeil was born in Seoul, South Korea. He majored in the practical music department of Seo Seoul Life Science High School and Hanyang University, but eventually dropped out of the latter.
Taeil’s family consists of his mother, father, and a younger sister who is 3 years younger than him. He originally wanted to be a zookeeper, but ended up switching his dream to being a singer after listening to Stevie Wonder.
He was scouted by SM Entertainment in 2013 at a Youth Singing Contest, and is known to be able to play the piano and guitar.
Taeil’s Career
- Pre-debut:
Prior to his debut with NCT, Taeil participated in various SM Entertainment projects during his time as a trainee.
In particular, he participated in the opening performance of the SMTOWN WEEK concert in December 2013 and sang a song for EXO’s variety show “EXO 90:2014” in October 2014.
Taeil started to appear alongside SM Rookies members in regular concerts since August 2015 and was announced as an official member of SM Rookies in October 2015. He also participated in an OST for “The Merchant: Gaekju 2015”.
- Debut with NCT:
In April 2016, Taeil made his debut as a member of NCT’s first sub-unit, NCT U. In July of the same year, he was announced as a member of NCT’s second sub-unit, NCT 127.
Ever since, Taeil has participated in various sub-unit and joint projects of NCT, alongside several collaborations with other label mates and fellow artists.
Car Accident + Injury
Previously in August 2023, Taeil got into a car accident in downtown Seoul while returning home by motorcycle after finishing his schedule early in the morning. He then took a hiatus from group activities for several months to recover.
Controversy + Departure from NCT
On August 28, SM Entertainment announced that Taeil had departed from NCT. According to the official statement, the male idol is being investigated for criminal cases related to sexual assault accusations.
According to the police, these allegations do not involve same-sex minors. However, it was discovered that an anonymous account has accused Taeil of installing spy cameras in their phone, blackmailing, and making murder threats toward them since July of 2024.
So far, there have been no official confirmation regarding the aforementioned accusations.
