Professor Seo Kyung-duk Supports Han So-hee’s Remarks Against Japanese Haters, “They’re Afraid Of K-content”

On December 27th, Professor Seo Kyung-duk said, “As I know, actress Han So-hee, who appears in Netflix’s drama ‘Gyeongseong Creature’, is facing a strong protest by Japanese netizens for posting a picture of activist Ahn Jung-geun”, adding “Han So-hee posted several photos with a meaningful caption, however, the photo of Ahn Jung-geun seems to have become controversial in Japan”.

Professor Seo continued, “Earlier this year, when the screening of the musical movie “Hero” about Ahn Jung-geun was successful, it also caused a controversy on SNS as Japanese people considered Ahn Jung-geun a ‘terrorist’”, adding “Most of the comments at that time were ‘Ahn Jung-geun is not a hero, but a terrorist’, ‘Korea made a movie about a terrorist’, ‘With this movie, Japan should cut the diplomatic relations with Korea’, etc.”

Criticizing Japanese netizens, the Professor said, “The fact that Japanese netizens terrorized Han So-hee with hate comments and showed absurd reactions to the movie ‘Hero’ is due to lack of proper history education. In other words, this can be seen as the result of the Japanese government’s failure to implement proper history education”.

Showing his support for Han So-hee’s post, Professor Seo Kyung-duk said, “It seems that they are afraid of K-content. As Korean dramas and movies are gaining global attention, Japanese people seem to be concerned about their historical wrongdoings being exposed to the world. In order to deal with the distortion of history by Japan and China, it is crucial that we actively promote K-content globally.”

Earlier, Han So-hee uploaded several still cuts of the drama “Gyeongseong Creature” and a photo of Korean independence activist Ahn Jung-geun with a caption responding to Japanese haters. However, Japanese netizens continued to criticize her, saying “Koreans are selfish”, “Ahn Jung-geun is a terrorist”, “Han So-hee’s Japanese fans are feeling abandoned right now”, “Don’t ever come to Japan again”, etc.

A Japanese fan confessed, “I want to watch the drama, but as a Japanese, I think I need to gain more courage”, and Han So-hee replied, “Sad but true. Thank you for your courage”.

Released on December 22nd, “Gyeongseong Creature” ranked 2nd place in Netflix’s TV Series Worldwide Rankings the day after its premiere.
