Police on NCT’s Taeil’s Sexual Crime Allegations: No Involvement with Same-Sex Minors

On the 28th, the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul announced that they are investigating allegations of sexual misconduct involving Moon Taeil (30, real name Moon Tae-il), a member of the idol group NCT. However, a police representative emphasized, “This investigation does not involve sexual crimes against same-sex minors.”

In a phone interview with the press, Bangbae Police Chief Choi Young-gi stated, “I was only informed that Taeil from NCT is under investigation at Bangbae Police Station, but I am not aware of the exact timing of the complaint or the specific charges.” Lee In-chun, the head of the Women and Juvenile Department at the station, added, “Since I’m currently at home after work, I will be able to check the exact details on the system tomorrow.”

On the same day, SM Entertainment released a statement confirming, “Recently, Taeil has been sued in connection with a criminal case related to sexual misconduct.” They added, “After verifying the facts, we recognized the seriousness of the situation and decided that Taeil would no longer continue with group activities. Following discussions with Taeil, he has decided to leave the group.”

Fan shock followed the sudden news of Taeil’s departure, as his involvement in a sexual misconduct lawsuit had not been previously disclosed, adding to the surprise. This has sparked rampant speculation among netizens, with various unverified posts circulating across online communities and social media.

Last August, Taeil had a motorcycle accident while returning home, which led to his temporary suspension of activities. Fans, who had assumed he was resting and recovering, were blindsided by this latest development.

As Taeil faces an investigation over the sexual misconduct allegations, attention is now focused on the details behind his departure. Taeil debuted in April 2016 as a member of NCT U and gained popularity through his activities with NCT and NCT 127.
