Recently, P.O sat down for an interview at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, to discuss his role in the Netflix series Teach You a Lesson.
Netflix’s Teach You a Lesson, directed by Hong Jong-chan, follows the bold efforts of the Educational Rights Protection Bureau as it works to restore order in schools while standing up for victims. P.O plays Bong Geun-dae, a brilliant administrative officer within the bureau.
Although P.O first became known to the public through variety shows and as a member of the K-pop group Block B, his journey as an actor has not always been smooth.
Following his appearance in the 2019 tvN drama Hotel Del Luna, he faced criticism regarding his facial expressions, line delivery, and pronunciation. Even in later projects, including the 2024 SBS drama Good Partner, some viewers continued to argue that his acting had not improved significantly, while others questioned whether he had been miscast.
Despite the criticism, P.O has never lost his love for acting.

“I think I’ve always been someone who genuinely loved movies, acting, and theater since I was young,” he said. “That passion is a huge driving force for me. I also hope that through acting, more people will become interested in and come to see our stage productions.”
Currently operating his own theater company, P.O revealed that he is preparing an original play scheduled to premiere in Seoul’s Daehangno theater district around December this year.
He added that Teach You a Lesson holds a particularly special place in his career.
“*Teach You a Lesson is the project that gave me confidence in myself,”* he shared. “There are still many things I wish I could have done better, and I still feel I have a lot to improve. But this is the project that made me feel like I can continue pursuing this profession.”
He continued, “For a long time, I focused only on how much I lacked and how much harder I needed to work. When someone believes in you, it creates a kind of synergy. For me, Teach You a Lesson was the project that gave me that belief and courage.”

When asked about the types of roles he hopes to take on in the future, P.O explained that he wants to portray more complex personalities.
“I do have a sharp and sensitive side to me,” he said. “But rather than presenting those traits in an obvious or forced way, I’d like to express them naturally and subtly.”
He concluded by saying that creating believable character growth remains one of his biggest goals as an actor.
“I think my challenge going forward is learning how to portray a character’s transformation in a convincing way,” he said, emphasizing his determination to continue growing both on screen and on stage.
