The 49-year age gap romance between veteran actor Patrick Tse and his much younger girlfriend Coco once shocked Hong Kong’s entertainment industry for years. The couple began dating in 2005, when Coco was just 20, and eventually parted ways in 2018. Recently, Coco opened up for the first time about the real reason behind their breakup, as well as their final conversation.
According to Coco, the two first met in 2004 at a hotel in Shanghai. Patrick Tse, dressed in an elegant suit and holding a cigar, left a strong impression on her at first sight. The next day, he took the initiative to invite her to lunch. Although she initially pretended to decline, she had already developed feelings for him and ultimately accepted.
After their meal, the two headed to the airport together. As the weather turned cold, Patrick Tse opened his coat to warm her hands. This small but thoughtful gesture made Coco feel his care deeply, convincing her that it was the beginning of a whirlwind romance.

During his pursuit, the veteran actor displayed charm and generosity. He once prepared a luxury evening gown for Coco and invited her to attend an event, joking that the accompanying jewelry was “borrowed from his daughter Jennifer Tse, so remember to return it.” His carefree yet humorous personality added a unique dynamic to their relationship.
Coco also revealed that her ideal type at the time was actor Alex Fong Chung-sun. On one occasion, Patrick Tse jokingly asserted his “territory,” asking who was more handsome, to which she humorously replied that he was “the most handsome man in Hong Kong.”
The turning point came during a hiking trip. At that moment, Patrick Tse realized the physical and age differences between them and hoped Coco would have a better future. Although there was no formal breakup conversation, he encouraged her to leave Hong Kong, expand her horizons, and focus on her career. Coco later returned to mainland China, became busy with business ventures, and the two gradually drifted apart.

Their final meeting took place at the end of 2018, when news of their breakup had already spread. Coco shared that after attending a party with friends, she went to visit Patrick Tse. They talked for a while before he gave her a tight hug and said he didn’t know when they would meet again after this farewell.
He also told her that if she ever met a good man in the future, she must bring him to meet him, as he would not allow anyone to treat her poorly. After one last embrace, they went their separate ways.
Coco admitted that deep down, she had long sensed Patrick Tse’s wish for her to have a new life. After the breakup, they only kept in touch by phone and never met again. She believes their relationship, which lasted over a decade, was beautiful and that neither of them wronged the other.
Speaking about her emotions, Coco said she shed tears many times but still cherishes the relationship. For her, their love has transformed into a familial bond over time. When asked about her current romantic life, she shared that she has yet to find someone suitable to introduce to Patrick Tse, as he once requested.

After largely disappearing from the public eye, Coco denied speculation that she was using the past relationship to gain attention. She emphasized that she is not the type to speak ill of others or exploit private matters, especially someone who once treated her with such love and kindness like Patrick Tse.
Regarding rumors that she received HKD 20 million as a breakup settlement, Coco did not confirm them. She explained that during their time together, they shared expenses transparently, and therefore asked the public not to further speculate on the matter.
Even years after the breakup, Coco continues to show respect for their past relationship. She prefers not to dwell on negative aspects, instead viewing it as an important chapter in her life.
Born in 1936, Patrick Tse entered the entertainment industry in the 1950s and remains a legendary figure in Hong Kong cinema and television. He has left a lasting impression on audiences through numerous hit productions such as The Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain, Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, The Legend of the Condor Heroes, Shaolin Soccer, and his iconic role as Lung Sei in King of Gambler.
