In a preview video released on January 21 via the official YouTube channel of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, titled “Park Shin-hye’s Life-Changing Childhood Photo and a Message to Her Mother”, the actress reflected on her early years in the industry.
Now in her 24th year since debuting, Park shared that her journey into acting began thanks to her church teachers, who encouraged her to audition for an open call by singer Lee Seung-hwan’s company. “My church teachers were huge fans of Lee Seung-hwan,” she recalled. “They suggested I try out for the audition. My mom had taken a studio photo of me when I was young, and the teachers submitted that photo on my behalf.”
Park passed the first round of screening and was called back for further auditions involving singing, dancing, and expressions. She eventually advanced to a third interview, marking the beginning of her career.

She also touched on the difficulties her family faced at the time. “My parents were going through a tough financial situation. Initially, they opposed the idea of me moving to Seoul. They felt it was too dangerous for me to go alone,” she explained.
However, one night while lying next to her mother, Park told her, “I don’t think I’ll get another chance if I don’t go now.” Though unsure where the courage to say that came from, her mother eventually agreed. The family then made the bold decision to leave their life in Gwangju and relocate to Seoul together.
At just a sixth grader, Park Shin-hye made a life-changing decision that would set her on the path to stardom. Her full appearance on You Quiz on the Block will air on January 21 at 8:45 p.m. KST.
