In episode 2 of JTBC’s weekend drama Surely Tomorrow, which aired on December 7, Lee Gyeongdo (played by Park Seo Joon) is seen trying to stop his first love Seo Ji-woo (played by Won Ji-an) from leaving the country. Despite high expectations, the drama only recorded a viewership rating of 3.6% in the Seoul metropolitan area and 3.3% nationwide, according to Nielsen Korea’s paid household data.
A month after Seo Ji-woo’s divorce made headlines, a shocking rumor emerged implicating Lee Gyeongdo as the reason behind it. A photo of them talking at a café on the same day she visited Dongwoon Ilbo became fodder for a scandal article.

To calm the growing tension within the newsroom and his own shaken emotions, Gyeongdo discussed a response with his superior Jin Han-kyung (Kang Mal-geum). They decided to frame the connection as long-standing friendship through a theater club from their university days, using an old group photo to diffuse the controversy. Gyeongdo began reaching out to former members of their club, “Jirimyeolryeol,” to recreate the group shot.
However, to pull it off, he also needed Seo Ji-woo’s cooperation despite having told her they should never meet again. Reluctant to contact her directly, he asked club member Park Se-young (Lee Joo-young) to reach out instead.

Unexpectedly, Seo Ji-woo showed up at Gyeongdo’s apartment with Se-young, catching him completely off guard. Spotting him in an old couple T-shirt from 18 years ago, Ji-woo remarked sarcastically, “You kept wearing that until it stretched out because it reminded you of me,” hitting him where it hurt.
Despite their awkward past, Ji-woo agreed to the photo, allowing the club to reunite for the first time in years. Just like old times, the adult members bickered and joked, rekindling their former bond. Gyeongdo and Ji-woo, in particular, maintained an emotionally charged distance, their expressions subtly reflecting unresolved feelings.

After the photo shoot, Ji-woo apologized for dragging Gyeongdo into another scandal, but he reassured her calmly, saying, “I never got dragged into anything, and nothing got twisted.” Both appeared to have grown, dealing with their inner emotions more maturely than before.
However, fate had other plans. Ji-woo’s older sister, Seo Ji-yeon (played by Lee El), met with Gyeongdo to reveal she had Alzheimer’s and made an unexpected plea: “Please hold on to Ji-woo.”
Torn by the emotional weight of the request, Gyeongdo ultimately decided to stop Ji-woo from leaving the country. Appearing suddenly and taking her luggage, he left Ji-woo stunned. The episode ended with her chasing after him, setting up more emotional confrontations to come.
