Actress Park Ji Yeon has revealed that her husband, actor Hwang Sang Kyung, played an important role in helping her create Woo Jin’s mother in Netflix’s Teach You a Lesson. Park Ji Yeon and Hwang Sang Kyung first met while studying theater and film at Hanyang University. After dating for several years, the former campus couple married in 2017.

Following the global success of Teach You a Lesson, Park Ji Yeon has received significant attention for her intense performance. Interest has also extended to her husband, who supported her throughout the preparation process. “My husband is also surprised by the sudden attention, just like I am,” Park Ji Yeon said during an interview in Seoul. “People around us have sent many reactions and congratulations. He is happier than anyone to see me receiving so much support.”

Her “Villain Specialist” Husband Offered Honest Advice

Park Ji Yeon explained that Hwang Sang Kyung’s experience playing antagonistic characters proved especially useful. “My husband is a specialist in villain roles, so he helped me a lot,” she said. “I have mainly played kind characters, while he has often portrayed perpetrators. Ever since we were dating, it has been natural for us to practice lines together whenever one of us prepared for an audition or project.”

While rehearsing for Teach You a Lesson, Hwang Sang Kyung reportedly gave his wife direct and realistic feedback. “When I showed him my performance, he often told me, ‘I think that is a little weak,’” Park Ji Yeon recalled. His comments encouraged her to make Woo Jin’s mother more forceful and unsettling, helping the character leave a stronger impression on viewers.

The Intercom Scene Was Practiced at Home

One of the drama’s most memorable sequences, the intercom scene, was also developed with her husband’s help. Park Ji Yeon revealed that she practiced outside their home using the actual intercom while Hwang Sang Kyung recorded her performance.

“He filmed me while I practiced in front of the intercom outside our home,” she explained. “We discussed how the scene could be expressed more effectively, and he helped me greatly in building the character of Woo Jin’s mother.”
