Park Hyung-sik and Park Seo-joon refused to do ‘heart pose’ at a recent event.
On the 27th of last month, a luxury early collection unveiling event was held at Seoul’s Nungdong Pie Factory Studio. Celebrities such as Park Hyung-sik, Park Seo-joon, Jang Yoon-joo, Won Ji-an, Kim Yoo-jung, Lee Je-hoon, and Han Go-eun attended the event. As expected from a launch show, the press fervently requested various poses from the stars, boosting the energy of the coverage. While it was partly to capture multiple shots, it was also an effort by the press to make the brand’s products stand out.
During press conferences, interviews, and reporter meetings, stars usually voluntarily strike a basic pose before continuing with the poses requested by the press. The current trend includes hand hearts, cheek hearts, fighting poses, as well as other poses that suit the concept of the program.
Most stars enthusiastically strike poses according to journalists’ requests, but occasionally, some decline the requests, causing disappointment. On this particular day, Park Hyung-sik and Park Seo-joon were among those who refused to comply.
Park Hyung-sik maintained a poker face, only assuming a basic posture. He simply put his hands in his pants pockets and looked at the camera. He even refused the press’s request for a heart pose. Only after repeated requests, he reluctantly presented a half-hearted heart pose for about 1 to 2 seconds, while explaining to the press, “I wasn’t informed beforehand.”
The essence of a celebrity’s glamorous life lies in the love of their fans. Stars exist because of their fans. Displaying various aspects for the fans is done as part of fan service. Particularly, in the past, Park Hyung-sik gained much favor from fans due to his exceptional fan service during his time with ‘ZE:A’. However, recently, there have been industry criticisms regarding his actions based on his own feelings.
Some argue that since it’s a matter of personal freedom, there should be no reason to make an issue out of the poses taken. They speculate that idols’ images and actors’ images are different, so refusing to conform might be an attempt to establish their own style.
Park Seo-joon also declined to perform the heart pose. He merely waved his hand and smiled. Even during the time when the dating rumors with YouTuber Xooos surfaced, his ambiguous responses, saying” I feel very pressured when it comes to opening up about my private life.”
Of course, there are also opinions that Park Hyung-sik’s and Park Seo-joon’s pose refusal is not uncomfortable. Especially with recent dating rumors, adhering to the “heart pose” could be cautious. The moment Park Seo-joon forms a heart shape with his hand, the name of his rumored partner, Xooos, might automatically come up.
Both actors have the right to choose their own poses. They may want to do a hand heart, or they may not. It’s possible they want to maintain a chic image as actors. Having the right doesn’t mean they have to please everyone all the time.
However, the common trait among actors who are loved by the public for a long time is that they always approach fan sentiment, journalist coverage, and their agency’s efforts with gratitude. The evaluation surrounding these two has changed from their early days. As actors, they may employ clever strategies, but they can’t always live up to what the public expects. Choices are free, but consequences are responsibilities.
