On September 24, Park Gyu-young appeared on Park Na-rae’s YouTube channel Narae-sik, where she recalled how she was cast by JYP Entertainment while studying at Yonsei University. The unexpected casting launched her into the entertainment industry.
Originally a student at Busan Foreign Language High School, Park Gyu-young continued her studies at Yonsei University before receiving a love call from JYP. Looking back, she revealed: “During my school days, I weighed about 15kg more than now. After debuting, I wanted to look good on screen and wear clothes beautifully, so I decided to lose weight.”

Despite her delicate on-screen image, Park Gyu-young described herself as a fitness enthusiast: “I usually skip breakfast and drink coffee, then head straight to the gym. I focus a lot on weight training. My back is so developed now that it even looked too strong, so I had to adjust.”
She also revealed that her recent role as a killer in SBS’s Queen Mantis required her to bulk up her back and shoulders, leaving her with lasting definition.
After starring in numerous genre-heavy works, Park Gyu-young confessed she wants to switch gears: “I’ve killed too many people in my past roles. Now I want to act in something beautiful, share emotions, and even fall in love. I’d love to try romantic comedies.”

Having worked alongside top actors such as Lee Jin-wook, Seo Kang-joon, Cha Eun-woo, Lee Jong-suk, and Im Si-wan, Park Gyu-young was asked which co-star was the most handsome. Without hesitation, she named Cha Eun-woo: “Every time I saw him, I thought, ‘You’re the most handsome guy in the universe.’ He’s so good-looking that I could never get used to it.”
With her versatility and charm, Park Gyu-young is steadily building her career — and perhaps, as she hopes, a future as one of K-drama’s next romantic comedy queens.
