oh seung hwan wheelchair accident

On January 9, a video titled “The One Choice That Changed My Life in an Instant” was uploaded to the YouTube channel “Weracle.” In the episode, lower-body paralysis creator Park Wi welcomed Oh Seung Hwan, also known as creator Wooni, as a guest.

Appearing confidently in a wheelchair, Oh Seung Hwan introduced himself as a livestream creator active on TikTok. “I used to work as an actor and model,” he explained. “Now, I create live content while using a wheelchair.”

Once an emerging actor with an athletic background, Oh Seung Hwan suddenly disappeared from the entertainment scene—only to reemerge years later as a global social media star. He revealed that he has been using a wheelchair for six years following a serious accident.

Recalling the incident, he shared, “It was winter. I was on my way home after work when I slipped in the apartment complex’s landscaping area. The ground was icy, and I fell backward, hitting the back of my neck.” The fall resulted in severe damage to his cervical spine, specifically the fifth and sixth vertebrae.

“My right leg has improved a lot,” he said, “but my left side still feels like partial paralysis.”

For years, Oh Seung Hwan deliberately avoided showing his wheelchair on social media, fearing criticism that he was using his injury for attention. “I didn’t want people to misunderstand,” he admitted. “So I tried not to show it.”

During the interview, he initially planned to transfer from his wheelchair to a chair but changed his mind mid-show. “When I saw Park Wi greet me warmly from his wheelchair, I didn’t feel the need to hide anymore,” he said. “I decided to be open about everything.”

The emotional conversation also touched on the psychological aftermath of the accident. Oh Seung Hwan revealed that he isolated himself from the world for a year after the injury. “In the hospital, the lights go out early,” he recalled. “I wouldn’t wake up until 2 or 3 p.m. I loved dreaming—because in my dreams, I could run.”

Park Wi empathized, sharing that he often dreams of playing soccer again. Oh Seung Hwan added, “ When I wake up, I think, ‘Right… I can’t move.’ Then I try to fall asleep again.”

Looking back, he admitted, “Sometimes I wonder if I would be in better shape now if I had mentally pulled myself together and focused on rehabilitation earlier.”

His turning point came after a friend encouraged him to try livestreaming. During one broadcast, a famous Thai actor mentioned him on air, which led to a surge in international attention. Since then, Oh Seung Hwan has built a passionate global fanbase.

“Fans send photos of themselves wearing T-shirts with my face on them,” he said with a smile. “They tell me to keep rehabilitating and say they’ll stay by my side until the day I walk again.”

Once sidelined by tragedy, Oh Seung Hwan has redefined his identity—not as someone limited by a wheelchair, but as a creator who inspires audiences worldwide through honesty, resilience, and courage.
