After more than 20 years of rarely holding concerts, Nicholas Tse suddenly ramped up his schedule in 2025, announcing monthly performances from August to December. Fans were delighted but puzzled why was the superstar suddenly working so hard?
According to QQ, the reason is both personal and professional: Nicholas Tse is going all out to support his longtime boss Charles Heung, founder of Emperor Motion Pictures (Emperor Entertainment Group), which is facing a massive debt of HKD 16.6 billion (approx. $7.2 billion USD).
Despite his fame and influence, which would easily allow him to switch agencies if Emperor collapsed, Nicholas Tse chose loyalty. Instead of leaving, he decided to stand by Charles Heung and help the company survive.
This devotion stems from their history. When Nicholas Tse was a rebellious newcomer—embroiled in controversies, even facing a hit-and-run scandal—Heung always shielded and supported him. The producer also gave Nicholas Tse key opportunities, such as starring in The Proud Twins (2005), which boosted his career. Nicholas Tse once admitted, “Everything I have today is thanks to him.”

Charles Heung’s support continued even when Nicholas Tse decided to pursue his dream of becoming a chef at the peak of his acting career. Rather than pressuring him, Charles Heung encouraged Nicholas Tse to follow his heart, proving his reputation as one of the most respected managers in Hong Kong entertainment.
Other stars under Emperor, such as diva Joey Yung and veteran manager Albert Ho, are also joining efforts whether through public support or livestreaming—to help the company weather the storm.

This solidarity stands in sharp contrast to mainland China’s management scene, where stars often clash with their agencies. Recent examples include Zhao Lusi, who openly battled her company, and Ju Jingyi, who accused her agency of deliberately holding back her career.
While mainland agencies are often criticized for exploiting artists as “money trees,” Charles Heung’s approach valuing loyalty and personal freedom—has inspired his artists to repay him in his time of crisis.
With Nicholas Tse’s determination and Emperor’s united front, fans are hopeful that the company can overcome its financial woes.
