NewJeans will perform the opening stage of the ‘2023 League of Legends (LoL) World Championship’ finals
Riot Games and NewJeans‘ agency, ADOR, announced on November 4th, “NewJeans will appear at the opening ceremony of the ‘2023 LoL World Championship’ finals, which will take place on November 19th in Seoul’s Guro-gu Gocheok Sky Dome.”
The ‘LoL World Championship’ is being held in Korea for the third time, following 2014 and 2018. This final, which is also broadcasted online, is the world’s largest esports event, attracting attention from all over the world with a simultaneous peak viewership of 74 million people (as of 2021).
NewJeans will take the stage at the opening of the finals, unveiling the performance of the theme song ‘GODS’ for the ‘2023 LoL World Championship’ for the first time. ‘GODS’ is the tenth theme song of the ‘LoL World Championship,’ where NewJeans’ powerful vocals harmonize with a grand sound.
The song set a Spotify streaming record on the first day of release (October 4th) and has been charting on the US Billboard Global Chart for three consecutive weeks, receiving a warm response.
In the past, top-tier artists who sang the theme songs for ‘LoL World Championship’ finals opening stage included Imagine Dragons and Lil Nas X, creating a buzz. NewJeans, as a K-pop group, not only sang the theme song for ‘LoL World Championship’ as a whole group for the first time but also decorated the opening stage of the finals, further proving their enhanced global presence and influence.
NewJeans plans to heat up the atmosphere of the finals with an overwhelming performance that suits the majestic song. The technical effects from the ‘GODS’ music video will be vividly implemented for a more dynamic stage.
