At the 2023 Pro Baseball All-Star Game, “NewJeans Minji” made a surprise appearance, garnering interest.
On July 16th, the 2023 Pro Baseball All-Star Game was held at Busan Sajik Stadium. To the professional sports world, the All-Star Game is like a year-end awards ceremony and a festival of stars, although the meanings may be slightly different.
Alongside other celebrities, NewJeans Minji appeared at the stadium on that day. However, instead of real celebrities, players who were famous for their resemblance to celebrities appeared in “celebrity disguises”. In particular, Samsung Lions’ outfielder Koo Ja Wook drew attention with his “Koo Minji” transformation.
When Koo Ja Wook stepped up to the plate, he appeared wearing a long-haired wig. He intentionally (?) imitated Minji from NewJeans, whom he was known to resemble. Koo Ja Wook was nominated as a candidate for resembling Minji in a look-alike poll conducted on the team’s online channel, and it was reported that he received many comments from fans saying he resembled Minji.
Yang Hyeon Jong, a pitcher from the opposing team, showed a disbelieving expression as he watched Koo Ja Wook transform into “Koo Minji”, and catcher Park Dong Won also shook his head in shock.
Koo Jae Wook aside, Lotte Giants’ rookie Kim Min Seok transformed into BLACKPINK Jennie. He even added to the fun of the All-Star Game by dancing to Jennie’s song “SOLO”, and ended up winning the Best Performance Award afterwards.
Meanwhile, NewJeans, which Minji is a part of , recently released “Super Shy”, one of the triple title tracks from their upcoming album. They are scheduled to release their second mini-album, “Get Up”, on July 21st.
