These fourth-generation idol groups received the highest awards at MMA 2023
The fourth-generation idol groups simply swept the Melon Music Awards 2023 ceremony held at Incheon Inspire Arena on the afternoon of December 2nd. In four categories (Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Record of the Year), NewJeans, IVE, and NCT DREAM were named.
In particular, NewJeans won the Song of the Year Award for “Ditto.” During their acceptance speech, Hanni said, “I’m so thankful that we were able to convey the feelings when we heard ‘Ditto’ to many people.” Hyein added, “Winter is coming. So I hope that people who are struggling or worried will always listen to “Ditto” and have a warm day.”
IVE members then held the Album of the Year in their arms with her first full-length album ‘I’ve IVE’. Looking back on the year, the members couldn’t hold back their tears. Jang Won-young said, “I never thought of winning the grand prize today. I just wanted to finish the “MMA” stage well this time, but thank you for giving us such a great award. I think there is a time when not only us but also everyone these days is wondering if what they are doing is right. There seem to be many situations where our music can be a force or an answer to it. I think we realized that once again through this award, so it’s very meaningful.”
“In fact, it hasn’t been long since we debuted, and it’s an honor and I’m so grateful to receive a lot of great awards at one awards ceremony,” said NewsJeans, who won their second Daesang as Artist of the Year. “I don’t know what to say, but I think I thought we should always repay you by growing and showing good performances.”
Finally, NCT DREAM was named at the Record of the Year category. “I think it’s an era where a lot of music is released these days and you can easily get tired of it. We are preparing for next year’s album with the mindset always keeping the importance of the music,” raising fans’ expectations.
