NewJeans Honored with the Best Buzz Award at the Japan MTV VMA

NewJeans has proven their local popularity and status in Japan by winning their first award at a prominent awards ceremony before their official debut in the country

According to the list of winners announced by ‘MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2023’ on the 27th, NewJeans received the ‘Best Buzz Award.’ The ‘Best Buzz Award’ is a special award given to artists who have generated a lot of buzz with their videos or songs during the aggregation period (from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023) and contributed to the development of the music industry.

‘MTV VMAJ’ is the Japanese version of the prestigious American music awards show ‘MTV VMA,’ which has been held since 2002.

NewJeans obtained ‘Platinum’ certification from the Japan Record Association for only three songs released this year (‘Ditto,’ ‘OMG,’ ‘Hype Boy’). With ‘Ditto,’ they achieved over 100 million cumulative streams on Oricon among foreign female artists in the shortest period.

Thanks to their remarkable achievements, NewJeans performed on the stage of Japan’s representative music festival, ‘Summer Sonic,’ in August in front of about 30,000 audience members. They have also made appearances on various famous Japanese TV programs and graced the covers of magazines, which has contributed to their rising popularity.
