NewJeans’ “Get Up” is the Second Highest-Rated K-pop Album of All Time on Pitchfork

NewJeans’ latest EP, “Get Up,” has captured the attention of both fans and critics alike.

Pitchfork, renowned for its discerning music reviews and critical acclaim, gave NewJeans’ “Get Up” a remarkable rating of 7.6.

This not only marks the highest rating for any female K-pop artist but also positions “Get Up” as the second highest-rated K-pop album of all time on the platform, trailing only behind Seo Taiji and Boys’ iconic album of the same name released in 1992.

Reviewer Joshua Minsoo Kim took to Twitter to share his enthusiasm for NewJeans’ latest EP. He mentioned having listened to the EP an impressive 72 times in the past couple of weeks.

Kim lauded NewJeans for their genre-blending prowess, a characteristic that sets them apart from other K-pop groups. According to him, NewJeans has masterfully tapped into a highly emblematic aspect of K-pop’s strength—its ability to draw inspiration from various pop genres.

NewJeans’ musical uniqueness, coupled with their relevance to the current moment, has significantly contributed to their broad appeal, even among non-K-pop fans.

Moreover, Kim highlighted NewJeans as the first K-pop group after BTS and BLACKPINK whose music is a direct response to the homogenization of K-pop’s sound following its global recognition.
