NewJeans Confirmed for Jamboree K-pop Concert Amidst BTS Unavailability and Last-Minute Changes
It has been confirmed that NewJeans will be performing at the 2023 New World Scout Jamboree K-pop Super Live concert.
On August 7th, NewJeans, who recently returned from their US performances, are reportedly expected to take the stage at the Jamboree K-pop Concert, which was initially scheduled to be held at Saemangeum Outdoor Stage in Buan, Jeollabuk-do, on August 6th.
However, due to the ongoing heatwave and a high number of heat-related illnesses, the venue and date were changed, and it has been confirmed that the concert will now be held at Jeonju World Cup Stadium on August 11th.
With the sudden change in schedule, news spread that some artists like NMIXX, VERIVERY, and actor Jang Dong Yoon, along with certain MCs, will not be able to appear as initially planned.
Due to these changes, the success of the heavily invested Jamboree event, which had a budget of 110 billion won, was hanging in the balance. The government’s solution was to bring in BTS. However, their participation was not confirmed.
As of today (August 7th), there are four days left until the Jamboree concert. During this time, not only do the schedules of BTS members need to be coordinated, but concert planning and equipment preparation are also essential.
Aligning the schedules of those BTS members who are currently pursuing solo activities or serving in the military is particularly challenging. Especially V since he is actively preparing for a solo album.
Furthermore, even if their participation is confirmed, the time for stage preparation is incredibly short. Setting up the stage equipment usually takes around 3 to 4 days. There’s uncertainty about whether the stage setup will be successful, especially considering the possibility of overlapping with a typhoon. Even if they make it to the stage, there won’t be time to fully grasp the choreography or rehearse.
Top artists like BTS are sensitive to stage equipment and planning. They must live up to their reputation by delivering the best performance possible.
Due to these practical reasons, some have raised the point that NewJeans replaced BTS as performer in the Jamboree concert. This analysis suggests that HYBE gave in under government pressure and presented their subsidiary label group NewJeans. It’s practically impossible to recruit NewJeans just a few days before the actual concert. People are inevitably questioning whether private enterprises were forced to do unwanted tasks under the guise of a national event.
Currently, the Global Scout Jamboree event is under criticism for rushed administration. Due to poor management and inadequate conditions, the situation has caused a stir. The frustrating responses and outcomes from both the government and the organizers are ultimately impacting K-pop artists and entertainment companies.
