NewJeans’ Absence from Grammy Exhibition: Min Hee-jin’s Non-cooperation or HYBE’s Neglect?

NewJeans will not be participating in the Grammy Museum exhibition organized by HYBE Labels, raising questions.

On July 10, HYBE announced the artists participating in the “HYBE: We Believe In Music, A GRAMMY Museum Exhibit” at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, USA.

When the public noticed that NewJeans, one of HYBE’s prominent artists, was not on the list, they began to question, “Why isn’t NewJeans part of the HYBE exhibition?” especially when newer groups like ILL-IT, TWS, and KATSEYE were included. Speculations arose that ongoing conflicts between HYBE and Min Hee-jin, the head of ADOR, might be the reason.

HYBE later clarified that participation in the Grammy Museum exhibition was left to the discretion of each label. A HYBE representative told TenAsia, “Not all artists are required to participate in HYBE events. For example, NewJeans did not appear at Weverse Con, and BTS did not participate either.”

ADOR only responded to TenAsia’s inquiries about the absence, stating it was a “label decision” without further elaboration.

Despite both HYBE and ADOR maintaining that participation is voluntary, the exclusion of ADOR and NewJeans from an event involving all HYBE labels and artists appears unusual, especially amid reported tensions between HYBE and Min Hee-jin. Industry insiders suggest that unless there was a specific reason, ADOR and NewJeans should have participated in the exhibition as a gesture of respect towards their fans.

This decision has led fans to speculate that the ongoing conflict between HYBE and Min Hee-jin might be affecting the artists’ activities, creating a negative cycle. Fans are voicing concerns that if HYBE did not encourage participation, it is neglect, and if Min Hee-jin’s personal feelings led to non-cooperation, it is equally problematic.

Industry experts agree that despite any conflicts between HYBE and Min Hee-jin, the artists’ activities and communication with fans should proceed without disruption.

Meanwhile, HYBE will host the ‘HYBE: We Believe In Music, A GRAMMY Museum Exhibit’ from August 2 to September 15 at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. The exhibition will feature 12 HYBE Labels artists, including Zico, BTS, SEVENTEEN, fromis_9, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, ENHYPEN, LE SSERAFIM, &TEAM, BOYNEXTDOOR, TWS, ILLIT, and KATSEYE. NewJeans will not be participating.
