Netizens Re-examine Videos Showing BLACKPINK’s Discomfort When Meeting Seungri

After BBC released a documentary about the Burning Sun Scandal, netizens looked back on a past video of BLACKPINK and Seungri

BBC recently released a documentary about the Burning Sun Scandal in which former BIGBANG member Seungri and some other K-pop singers were the main perpetrators. This documentary gained keen attention as it showed unreleased videos proving the evil faces of Seungri and his friends. After serving his sentence, Seungri was released from prison and returned to his normal life. Despite his evil past, the former male idol is still enjoying a luxurious life.

Amid the criticism that arose again after the release of the BBC documentary, netizens re-examined a past video in which Seungri played a prank on BLACKPINK members. This video was recorded when Seungri was still active as an idol under YG and BLACKPINK was still a rookie group.

During their debut days, BLACKPINK members often appeared in content in which they needed to interact with senior idols, including BIGBANG. Seungri joined entertainment programs with BLACKPINK and appeared at BLACKPINK’s concert as a guest. Jennie also featured in Seungri’s solo song “GG Be”. However, fans noticed BLACKPINK members’ uncomfortable expressions whenever they met Seungri despite their frequent interactions.

During a shoot, Seungri received a mission that he had to play a prank on BLACKPINK. At first, he met the members at the hall of YG building and greeted them normally. After that, the two men who came with Seungri asked BLACKPINK for their signatures. In particular, a man suddenly took off his T-shirt revealing his back full of tattoos. Upon seeing that, the four girls were very scared and Seungri hurriedly came to solve the situation for them.

Watching the video, BLACKPINK fans were very angry, especially after the Burning Sun Scandal broke out. Many pointed out the man’s inappropriate action as sexual harassment.

Not stopping there, in the next scene, Seungri continued to do another mission, which was inviting BLACKPINK to a company party. As soon as Seungri invited them, the oldest member Jisoo refused it saying they had an MV shoot. Seungri turned to Jennie and asked, “You want to come, right?”. Looking serious, Jennie firmly replied, “No”.

After that, Seungri gave the members vouchers for his ramen restaurant. Receiving the vouchers, Lisa and Rosé looked very confused and they couldn’t even smile. The atmosphere of their meeting was very awkward and Jennie even confessed that he made her feel uncomfortable. Although BLACKPINK members were still rookies back then, they already expressed uneasy feelings and discomfort without hiding.

It was not the first time BLACKPINK tried to keep a distance from Seungri. When Seungri showed up at their concert and made a joke saying Jennie touched his shoulder backstage, Jennie immediately countered, “I’ve never done that”.

Recalling BLACKPINK members’ expressions whenever they met Seungri now after the Burning Sun Scandal, netizens finally understand why the girls tried to avoid interactions with him.
