Netizens Question JYP’s Past Advice to ITZY on How to Maintain Long-Term Popularity

During their world tour about a year ago, ITZY members sat down with J.Y. Park (JYP) for a meal. While talking, JYP shared insights about ITZY’s potential as a group and addressed the worries raised by the members.

Yeji shared her concerns about the challenges of maintaining long-term popularity in the rapidly changing music industry. She mentioned that K-pop idols can see a quick surge in popularity when a song does well on charts, only to experience a rapid decline in hype and interest. Yeji contemplates the qualities that ITZY should emphasize to ensure the longevity of their popularity.

JYP responded that “ITZY is one of the few groups where all members have the potential to go solo.” He specifically points out ITZY members’ ability to sing live with a hand mic while dancing. According to JYP, “ones who can deliver a live performance while dancing will endure in the industry the longest.”

Netizens have shared their divided opinions on JYP’s advice, claiming that his words might not have been helpful regarding ITZY’s concerns.

They pointed out that ITZY has been losing the public’s interest compared to the first years of their debut. And one of the biggest reasons has been the alleged downgraded quality of ITZY’s songs, with their recent releases no longer charting high due to them being less public-friendly.

Thus, netizens have raised questions about whether singing live with a hand mic is a guaranteed formula for long-term popularity for idols. They believe that good music should be the essential factor for ensuring an idol’s success in the long run.
