Netizens disappointed by MOMOLAND members’ handwritten letters about disbandment?

On February 14th, after the official disbandment of girl group MOMOLAND was announced, members such as Nancy, Ahin, Nayun, Jane, Hyebin, and JooE, posted letters expressing their feelings on social media.

In their letters, the members said their final greetings to fans who loved them throughout the activities of MOMOLAND. In particular, phrases such as “I’ve always wondered about how I should repay our Merries, (short for Merry-Go-Round, fandom name) who have always been my great supporters and strength” and “Even though we have decided to take our own paths towards our dreams, Us MOMOLAND will always be a team” were used, adding to the sadness of fans.

However, the contents of letters from each of the 6 members are receiving doubts, as netizens pointed out they were so similar, they may as well be “copy and paste”.

These people also said that only the greetings and the name were different, while the rest of the letters were basically the same.

As a result, some netizens who have been supporting MOMOLAND for a long time, expressed their disappointment and raised doubt about the sincerity of the letters.

Below are some comments from netizens:

  • For a handwritten letter of disbandment, these really sound like “copy and paste” letters of reflection
  • These seems as if written by an AI
  • Are these writing practices?
  • Did the company copy it for them?
  • This is the first time I read such similar letter posted all at the same time
  • Are they really being sincere? The fans must be disappointed reading these.

Some also believed that it’s better for MOMOLAND’s leader to post one letter as the group’s representative. “If they want to emphasize that they feel the same way, they should post it in one place”, these people said.

A netizen also expressed their regrets on a blog, saying, “Handwritten letters are supposed to convey the sincere feelings of the writer. The value of handwritten letters is decreased if they only use prepared phrases as if directed to do so.”

The same netizens also pointed out marks of correction tape in one letter, adding, “How do fans feel when they see traces of erasing letters with correction tape because it is a waste of time to rewrite a text that doesn’t look like 5 copies of the same manuscripts?”

MOMOLAND debuted in the music industry through Mnet’s survival program “Finding Momoland”, and was signed under MLD Entertainment (formerly Duble Kick Company). They gained popularity with songs such as “Bboom Boom”, “BAAM”, “Thumbs Up”, and “Yummy Yummy Love”.
