Netflix hits big at 59th Baeksang Arts Awards, 6 works named in 15 categories

With numerous nominations, will Netflix’s works be able to win a trophy at the Baeksang Arts Awards?

According to the final nominations short-list of the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards (released on the official website on April 7th by the Baeksang Arts Awards Secretariat), 6 Korean works produced by Netflix were listed in 15 categories.

Among Netflix’s works, “The Glory”, which will compete in a total of 9 categories, received the most nominations. In particular, “The Glory” was nominated for Best Drama, Best Screenplay and Technical Award (Cinematography) due to its syndrome-level popularity.

Kim Gun Woo, Kim Hieora, Song Hye Kyo, Lim Ji Yeon, Yeom Hye Ran and Park Sung Hoon were respectively nominated for Best New Actor, Best New Actress, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor. Besides, Jo Woo Jin of “Narco-Saints” was also selected as a candidate for Best Supporting Actor.

In the film category, Jeon Do Yeon of “Kill Boksoon”, Lee Yeon of “Kill Boksoon” and Byeon Woo Seok of “20th Century Girl” were respectively nominated for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best New Actor.

Netflix works of various genres, such as educational and entertainment programs, were also selected as candidates. “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal” was nominated for Best Educational Show, and “Physical: 100” was nominated for Best Entertainment Program.

Meanwhile, Netflix will also unveil a collection of “2023 Baeksang Arts Awards Candidates”, which combines TV dramas and movies nominated in a total of 54 categories.
