Netflix has officially confirmed the production of its upcoming series Kin and Sin (working title), bringing together a powerhouse cast including Han Suk-kyu, Yoon Kye-sang, Choo Ja-hyun, Yoo Jae-myung, Kim Jong-soo, and Go Doo-shim.
Kin and Sin is a noir drama that unfolds against the backdrop of Jeju Island, delving into the fierce rivalry among three influential families the Bus, the Yangs, and the Kos—as they fight to protect their lineage and legacy. The series will be directed by Choi Jung-yeol, known for his work on Disney+’s Vigilante and films like Start-Up and One Way Trip. The screenplay is penned by writer Yoo Jae-hong.
The Korean title “Gwandang” is derived from a Jeju dialect term referring to relatives who perform ancestral rites together. It signifies a social bond that goes beyond blood relations symbolizing the interconnected, cooperative fabric unique to Jeju society.

The story centers on three powerful clans: the Bu family, who dominate Jeju through pig farming and the horse racing industry; the Yang family in Jeju City, who are expanding through real estate development; and the Ko family in Seogwipo, who once flourished via the casino business but have since faded. All three families engage in a brutal power struggle over their territorial and business interests.
Han Suk-kyu plays Bu Yong-nam, the head of the Bu family and a key Kin and Sin figure. He is determined to protect his family amid the rising tensions surrounding Jeju’s land and influence.
Yoon Kye-sang takes on the role of Bu Geon, the half-brother of Bu Yong-nam and Bu Yong-seon. As the second son of the Bu family, he fights to secure his place within the clan.

Choo Ja-hyun portrays Bu Yong-seon, a bold and decisive figure who plays a pivotal role in the Bu family’s operations with her fearless demeanor and action-first mindset.
Yoo Jae-myung plays Yang Gwang-ik, head of the Yang family, a direct rival to Bu Yong-nam. As a key player in Jeju City’s real estate sector, he aims to topple the Bu family and seize control.
Kim Jong-soo appears as Ko Dae-soo, leader of the Ko family. Once at the peak of the casino boom, he is now in decline but prepares to reemerge in the ensuing chaos to reclaim his family’s stake.

Veteran actress Go Doo-shim joins as Daepan Hal-mang, the family matriarch. A native of Jeju and belonging to the Ko clan herself, she brings authenticity and gravitas to the series, following her well-received performance in Our Blues, another Jeju-based drama.
Netflix has previously found success with Jeju-themed content such as When Life Gives You Tangerines, and viewers are eager to see if Kin and Sin can replicate or surpass that acclaim.
Kin and Sin will be released on Netflix.
