Netflix has officially announced the global premiere of its original Korean series Genie, Make a Wish on October 3, 2025, coinciding with the Chuseok holiday. The much-anticipated drama marks the reunion of top stars Kim Woo-bin and Suzy, and the return of hit screenwriter Kim Eun-sook, known for iconic works like Guardian: The Lonely and Great God and Mr. Sunshine.

Genie, Make a Wish is a fantasy romantic comedy centered around a genie named Jinn, portrayed by Kim Woo-bin, who awakens after a thousand years of slumber. Jeannie’s task is to grant three wishes to his new master, a stoic and emotionally repressed woman named Ka-young, played by Suzy. As the two navigate the mysterious rules of wish fulfillment, an unexpected and enchanting romance begins to unfold.

Kim Woo-bin’s character is no ordinary genie, he’s referred to as “Iblis,” a darker, more complex figure who carries both charm and menace. Suzy’s role as Ka-young, a woman who has shut herself off from feelings, presents a compelling contrast and chemistry that promises both heartfelt moments and humor.

The series boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Ahn Eun-jin, Noh Sang-hyun, Go Gyu-pil, and Lee Joo-young. Directed by Ahn Gil-ho (Stranger, Memories of the Alhambra) and Lee Byeong-heon, the production is expected to blend fantasy elements with sharp emotional storytelling.

Early promotional material has generated significant buzz online. The official teaser shows Suzy standing in a glowing desert landscape, holding a magical lamp. As she rubs it, golden sands swirl to reveal Kim Woo-bin’s genie emerging mysteriously close. He declares, “I will search the world to find you. Remember my name Iblis,” heightening the drama and intrigue.

A tagline from the poster, “Come to corruption,” hints at a deeper, possibly darker narrative twist, adding layers to the otherwise light-hearted romantic premise.

The pairing of Kim Woo-bin and Suzy both of whom are beloved for their roles in romantic dramas has raised high expectations. This marks their on-screen reunion since Uncontrollably Fond (2016), and fans are eager to see how their matured acting and the fantasy genre setting will elevate their chemistry. Screenwriter Kim Eun-sook’s involvement further cements Genie, Make a Wish as a premium Korean drama offering, with the potential to achieve global success on Netflix akin to her previous works.
