Natural comedians of Korean dramas 2023: Jung Kyung Ho returns with a comedic role, Shin So Young steals the spotlight with an unexpected appearance

These actors successfully pulled off moments of comedy and never failed to put a bright smile on the audience.

Lim Bok Ja (Shim So Young) – “Taxi Driver”

Shim So Young

After “Taxi Driver” returned with season 2, Shim So Young stole the scenes as soon as she did in the first season. Playing Lim Bok Ja, Shim So Young’s character was the boss of a voice phishing organization located within a Chinese restaurant. She fell in love with Kim Dong Gi’s undercover persona Wang Tao Zi and did not know she was being taken advantage of. Learned of the truth, Lim Bok Ja felt betrayed and carried the grudge with her onto season 2. Gracious as a lady in season 2, Lim Bok Ja  once again falters at the sight of Wang Tao Zi and decides to go after him for vengeance.

At the sights of her on screen, the audience all agreed about one thing: Lim Bok Ja has an unique appearance, from her hair to her makeup. The way Lim Bok Ja exchanges chemistry with Kim Dong Gi was cringey and humorous at the same time. Thanks to Shim So Young’s portrayal of a goofy character, she managed to steal the scene time after time, leaving the audience wanting more for how the side “romance” will develop in the future.

Gak Shin (Cha Chung Hwa) – “Kokdu: Season of Deity”

“Kokdu: Season of Deity” starring Kim Jung Hyun and Im Soo Hyang is getting all the buzz in early 2023. Gak Shin, played by Cha Chung Hwa, is stealing the spotlight of the drama.

Gak Shin is Kok Du’s right-hand woman who gives advice to him on whatever there is on Earth. What sold the role of Gak Shin was Cha Chung Hwa’s expressive moods and comical behaviors. Moreover, her dynamics with Ok Shin (Kim In Kwon) managed to draw much laughter from the audience.

The drama marked another co-appearance of Cha Chung Hwa and Kim Jung Hyun after the period drama “Mr. Queen” starring Shin Hye Sun. As Court Lady Choi, the actress garnered positive responses from the audience for her witty and gracious performance.

Choi Chi Yeol (Jung Kyung Ho) – “Crash Course in Romance”

After 2 seasons of “Hospital Playlist,” Jung Kyung Ho returned to the small screen with “Crash Course in Romance” starring himself and Jeon Do Yeon.

Choi Chi Yeol (Jung Kyung Ho) is a talented and famous math instructor. However, it was his inherent sassiness and over-the-top confidence that stood out and entertained the audience. Moreover, the clumsiness of the two main characters as they grow more in love with each other also scored a point with the viewers.

Kang Hyun Nam (Yeom Hye Ran) – “The Glory”

While “The Glory” offers a bleak and realistic take at school violence and revenge, the series still manages to incorporate moments of comedic relief in the drama to lighten the mood. That comedic element comes from no other than Yeom Hye Ran as the housekeeper and informant Kang Hyun Nam.

At first, Kang Hyun Nam suffers from a painful life as a woman being physically abused by her husband. She was the one who spotted Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo) doing shady business at the Semyeong Foundation’s president’s house and appeared with bruises and band-aid.

She developed a “pact” with Dong Eun in exchange for the killing of her husband. However, as their relationship developed and the pair grew closer to each other, hidden sides of Hyun Nam came to light. She was a witty and quirky woman and a natural comedian with the mindless things that she does. Just her expression and posture alone could draw laughter from the audience.

It was also her goofiness that was able to break through Dong Eun’s hard shell and cracked a smile on Moon Dong Eun. Therefore, with ups and downs, bleakness and humor, the two characters went from strangers to partners and companions, thanks to Hyun Nam’s genuineness.
