On April 9, the Seoul Western District Court’s Criminal Division 11 held the first trial sentencing for Nam Taehyun, who was charged with violating the Road Traffic Act (DUI) and related offenses.
The court sentenced him to one year in prison along with a fine of 1 million KRW.
While the court acknowledged that the defendant admitted to his wrongdoing and showed remorse, it emphasized the severity of the case. “Despite previously receiving a fine for drunk driving, the defendant reoffended. Moreover, he committed this crime during the probation period following a confirmed drug-related offense, which warrants strict punishment,” the court stated.

Nam Taehyun was accused of causing an accident on April 27 last year at around 4:10 a.m. While driving under the influence along Gangbyeonbuk-ro toward Ilsan, near Dongjak Bridge, he attempted to overtake another vehicle and crashed into a central divider. Reports revealed that he was driving at 182 km/h, far exceeding the road’s speed limit of 80 km/h.
Although no injuries were reported from the accident, his blood alcohol concentration at the time was 0.122%, well above the license revocation threshold of 0.08%.
Previously, during the final hearing on March 12, prosecutors had requested a sentence of one year and six months in prison along with a fine of 1 million KRW. They cited his prior record for similar offenses, the high blood alcohol level, excessive speeding, and the fact that the incident occurred during his probation period as key factors.
