Nam Joo-hyuk Praised For His Perfect Portrayal Of Dark Hero ‘Vigilante’ With Two Faces

“Vigilante” director talked about Nam Joo-hyuk’s immersion into the dark hero role

On October 7th, “Vigilante” unveiled episode 1 to episode 3 at Haneul Theater, Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae, Busan then held a GV with the participation of director Choi Jung-yeol, actors Yoo Ji-tae, Kim So-jin, and Lee Joon-hyuk. Nam Joo-hyuk enlisted in March and is serving in the military so he couldn’t join the GV.

Based on a webtoon of the same name, “Vigilante” is an action thriller about Kim Ji-yong (Nam Joo-hyuk), a model police academy student by day who transforms into the dark hero Vigilante at night and directly punishes criminals who evade the law.

The series was officially invited to the 28th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF)’s “On Screen” section. It is known that the audience filled the whole three-story theater and showed enthusiastic cheers. The actors were also very surprised to hear the loud applause from the audience.

Nam Joo-hyuk challenged a dark hero role by transforming into Kim Ji-young in Disney+’s “Vigilante” and perfectly portrayed two different faces of his character. The actor also performed bloody and ruthless action scenes.

Director Choi shared, “I really liked Nam Joo-hyuk’s eyes. I thought there was another meaning deep inside his eyes”, adding “My prediction was correct. The actor was really Kim Ji-yong himself.”

It is known that Nam Joo-hyuk expressed the deep inner pain of his character through actions. Kim Ji-yong’s targets are perpetrators who committed crimes without showing consideration to the victims. With his tall height and impressive physique, the actor performed many amazing and cool fighting scenes. Viewers can feel his furious eyes, which are full of anger, resentment, and madness, when he fights criminals who killed children.

The director commented, “I focused on the action scenes because that’s what made the original webtoon famous”. He added, “Ji-yong’s actions vary depending on his opponents’ behaviors. There is a scene that focuses on emotion more than action. I tried to capture such emotions in the action scene. Better actions will be unveiled in episode 4.”

Yoo Ji Tae, Kim So-jin and Lee Joon-hyuk also described their characters and revealed the efforts they made for such transformations. Director Choi said, “Each character has a different charm and they get tangled up with each other”, raising expectations for the full broadcast.

Meanwhile, “Vigilante” with 8 episodes will premiere on Disney+ on November 8th.
