“My Teenage Girl” performance criticized for receiving many votes despite poor quality (ft. Jeon So-yeon’s disappointment)
The stage of a trainee team appearing in “My Teenage Girl” became a hot topic even after the broadcast.
On MBC’s audition program “My Teenage Girl,” which first aired on November 28th, the performance of Oh My Girl‘s “Nonstop” by 11th graders Kim Ye-seo and Kim Seo-jin was shown. In the survival show “My Teenage Girl”, trainees have to receive 75% of votes from the Untact on-site audience to be able to meet the judges. As a result, there were also trainees who had excellent skills but failed to come to the judges because the audience in the studio didn’t press the acceptance button for them.
In the case of Kim Ye-seo and Kim Seo-jin, the trainees showed off their refreshing visuals but missed the beat several times and performed with unstable pitch from the start of their stage. Contrary to their good facial expression, the unexpected lack of singing skills made viewers, including the judges, disappointed.
However, this stage passed the first evaluation of Untact on-site voting, and Jeon So-yeon, who couldn’t believe it, said, “I thought the Untact evaluation team members couldn’t hear the performance. It was the worst performance I saw today,” she continued her cold assessment.
Jeon So-yeon then said, “There are trainees with good skills who we (the judges) couldn’t meet because they couldn’t pass the first round. As it is a place to evaluate trainees who fight for their dreams, I think the untact evaluation audience should also be responsible (with their votes).”
Viewers also showed disappointed responses after the broadcast. Some netizens left comments such as “It was at the level of the ‘Produce 48’ Hellbaya” and “They need more practice,” comparing this performance to that of the second ‘BOOMBAYAH‘ team on Mnet’s ‘Produce 48‘.
Eventually, the two trainees were eliminated with zero votes from the judges on “My Teenage Girl.”
