“My staff went to Itaewon… It’s not someone else’s business” Park Ha Sun mourns the Halloween tragedy 

Park Ha Sun expressed her condolences to the victims of the Itaewon disaster and their families. 

In the SBS Power FM radio show “Park Ha Sun’s Cinetown” broadcast on October 31st, DJ Park Ha Sun said in her intro, “There are times when days without anything special are boring, but I think an ordinary day is a great blessing. I hope everyone is having a comfortable day.”

Park Ha Sun selected the OST “Come Fly With Me” from the movie “Catch Me If You Can” as the first song of the day. She said, “Last weekend, there was a big disaster in Itaewon. It is a period of national mourning until November 5th. I pray that those who lost their lives in the unexpected accident rest in peace, and I send my deep condolences to the victims’ families.”

Park Ha Sun also delivered messages from listeners who were heartbroken after the Itaewon tragedy. A message reads, “I wasn’t feeling well all weekend. A tragic thing happened”. Park Ha Sun empathized with the listener’s words, saying, “What a hard week it will be for those who have lost their family members.”

Park Ha Sun continued, “It’s a Monday where I can feel that this daily life I’m living is precious and that it’s never ordinary. I wish everyone all the best. A day with nothing much is still a day to be thankful for. I am sorry to hear the sudden news. It breaks my heart. I have friends who just went there to study, and that happened. A lot of my staff and friends also went there… It doesn’t feel like it’s someone else’s business.”

Earlier, on October 29th, ahead of Halloween, a large crowd of people gathered in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, causing a large crushing accident. According to the investigation headquarters of the Seoul National Police Agency on October 31st, 154 people were killed in the disaster. The South Korean government designated October 30th to November 5th as the ‘National Mourning Period’.
