“My Lovely Liar” director on Kim So Hyun and Hwang Min Hyun chemistry, “Their visual combination itself is the best”
Director Nam Sung Woo talked about the chemistry between Kim So Hyun and Hwang Min Hyun in “My Lovely Liar”.
On July 24th, director Nam Sung Woo and writer Seo Jung Eun directly answered various questions about tvN’s upcoming Mon-Tue drama “My Lovely Liar”.
“My Lovely Liar” tells the romance between ‘liar hunter’ Mol Sol Hee (Kim So Hyun), who can’t trust people because of her ability to hear lies, and genius composer Kim Do Ha (Hwang Min Hyun), who hides his identity.
Revealing that he was attracted by the fact that this drama is a fantasy based on reality, director Nam explained, “The ability to hear lies is a superpower that anyone would imagine at least once. I read the script while wondering how a person with this ability would live in reality. The narrative of a woman, who considers her ability a curse, and a man who desperately needs it, meeting and saving each other is really interesting.”
Writer Seo Jung Eun shared, “While thinking that it would be great if lie-detector devices become common like mobile phones, I came up with the character. Apart from the romance, I tried to add refreshing and pleasant fun in the story to highlight the character with such a special ability”.
Director Nam mentioned Kim So Hyun and Hwang Min Hyun’s chemistry as what he focused the most on while directing this drama. The director said, “I directed the process of Mok Sol Hee and Kim Do Ha, who are completely different from each other, getting to know each other in a cute yet affectionate way”, adding, “Kim Do Ha has an unspeakable secret. I wanted to arouse viewers’ curiosity about what secret this character might be hiding and keep them following the drama.”
Regarding the two leading actors Kim So Hyun and Hwang Min Hyun, director Nam shared, “Both are very passionate about acting. They tried various ways to express the characters together and created a great couple. Their visual combination is also amazing, which already makes their chemistry the best.”
Writer Seo Jung Eun also talked about the process of creating Mok Sol Hee. She said, “I wanted Mok Sol Hee to appear strong but not cold, giving a warm feeling. Kim So Hyun perfectly fit the role and I believed that he would lead the story well”. Regarding Hwang Min Hyun’s character Kim Do Ha, she said, “Through this character, viewers will get to see new aspects that Hwang Min Hyun has not shown.”
The writer emphasized the keyword “love” and said, “Although Mok Sol Hee seems to lead an easy life with her special ability, but true love can make even that ability impossible. We may be obsessed with truth and lies, but we cannot see the hidden minds of people who tell lies. I wanted to tell a story about the process of love formed through understanding and trusting each other’s hidden feelings”.
Director Nam hinted, “There will be various interesting and entertaining details. The satisfaction of Mok Sol Hee catching lies in the drama will bring a different pleasant experience to viewers”, adding, “Kim So Hyun and Hwang Min Hyun’s chemistry is also perfect from visuals to acting. The process of the protagonists getting to know each other and becoming close will excite viewers.”
Writer Seo also added, “In a world filled with lies, a sweet romance between a woman who can hear all lies and a man who never lies but hides a mystery will present a diverse range of fun. Please enjoy the process of the two people who seem impossible to get close to each other eventually meeting next door.”
Finally, the director confessed, “We are enjoying the filming with great actors and staff who are full of positive energy. I hope this energy can be conveyed through the work. Please look forward to it”. Meanwhile, the writer concluded with a witty remark, “Mok Sol Hee will deal with all the lies for you, so please enjoy the drama comfortably.”
“My Lovely Liar” will premiere on July 31st.
