Most epic villain role on the Korean big screen to date: Im Si Wan’s haunting performance in “Unlocked” gained much praise from the audience 

Im Si Wan successfully portrayed another psychologically twisted character. 

Unlocked, based on the novel of the same name by Akira Teshigawara, is a psychological thriller that boasts an unique storyline surrounding a normal smartphone that was turned into a lethal weapon. The movie follows an ordinary office worker Lee Na Mi (Chun Woo Hee), who left her phone on a bus after a night hangout with her friends. Tragedy ensues when twisted killer Jun Yeong (Im Si Wan) takes possession of her phone and secretly monitors Na Mi’s life through her device.

Im Si Wan successfully portrayed a the character, sending chills down the viewers’ spines with his compelling performance. After his role in “Emergency Declaration,” Im Si Wan continued refining his portrayal of these unique lines of characters and was able to gather attention to himself. After viewing the movie, some audience members even said the actor deserved a Baeksang.

Im Si Wan’s acting performance was an example that an idol-turned-actor can break the stereotype of “idols who can’t act” and reach new career heights. Debuting with ZE:A, Im Si Wan started to get recognition only when he turned to acting. He appeared in several works such as “The Moon Embracing the Sun,” “The Attorney” and “Misaeng.” With the movie “The Merciless,” Im Si Wan was the first idol-actor to attend the “Cannes International Film Festival.”

Apart from “Unlocked,” Im Si Wan is also set to appear in another movie work, “Boston 1947.” The movie revolves around touching stories that occurred at the Boston Marathon in 1947, the first ever international competition after the World War II.
