Most criticized, yet Jisoo will have no worries if BLACKPINK disbands?

BLACKPINK Jisoo receives a lot of criticisms across her career, but the idol-actress is actually extremely established.

As BLACKPINK’s contract with YG Entertainment is approaching its expiration, there have been many concerns about the girl group’s disbandment. Amidst this, however, attention is being paid to BLACKPINK Jisoo – who is among the most successful Kpop soloists in 2023, alongside BTS Jungkook.

In particular, after 7 years of debut, Jisoo finally released her 1st solo single album, “Me”, and the title song “Flower” in March 2023. Despite being the last member of BLACKPINK to go solo, Jisoo enjoys a lot of achievements, and has a memorable solo promotion.

Jisoo’s title track, “Flower”, is a unique mixture of various music genres, ranging from traditional Korean instruments to Cariberian influences and contemporary trap sounds. As such, the song quickly earned various praises from music critics, despite controversies being raised against Jisoo’s vocal skills.

In early July, Jisoo’s “Flower” secured its second victory on the Inkigayo show. This marked the song’s 9th win since its release in March, following previous achievements on M Countdown, Music Bank, and Music Core.

The music video for “Flower” reached 300 million views and 9.5 million likes on YouTube in just 88 days. This stands as the fastest record for a Korean solo artist, highlighting Jisoo’s influence independent from BlackPink. The female singer also broke Lisa’s record, becoming the fastest Korean artist to reach 100 million streams in just 32 days.

Upon its initial release, “Flower” held the second position on the Billboard Global 200 chart. The song became the platform’s third most streamed track, following Lisa’s “Lalisa” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License.” Furthermore, the song debuted at the second spot on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S chart, establishing Jisoo as the third Kpop solo artist to enter the top 10 of the global music rankings, following Rosé and Lisa.

Aside from outstanding solo achievements, Jisoo also took part in dramas. As Black Pink’s visual member, fans were not surprised when Jisoo appeared as a cameo in “The Producers” (2015) before debuting as a singer.

In 2021, Jisoo starred in “Snowdrop” alongside “melodrama prince” Jung Hae In. Ignoring the fact that nearly 300,000 Korean viewers sent a petition to ban the drama due to historical distortion, Jisoo’s acting skills were recognized by the director and fans.

Having a successful solo career, stable acting skills as well as serving as a global ambassador for luxury fashion brands, Jisoo is said to have “no worries” if Black Pink disbands. With a face that is the taste of Korean viewers, she has a lot of potential to get rid of the “idol” label and be recognized as an actress in Korea.
