Moonbin’s 1st death anniversary: Our Moon who will forever shine
It has been one year since the passing of ASTRO's late Moonbin
Moonbin was found deceased in his residence in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on April 19th, 2023 at the age of 25.
Debuting with ASTRO in 2016, Moonbin actively participated as the main dancer and sub-vocalist. He received great love not only for his unit activities but also for his presence in acting and variety shows, showcasing his versatile charm.
The sudden news shocked the entertainment industry. Member Cha Eunwoo, who was fulfilling schedules in the United States, hurriedly returned home, and MJ, who was serving in the military, received emergency leave to pay respects at the funeral. Music programs like “M Countdown” and “Music Bank” solemnly commemorated Moonbin, and events that were scheduled had moments of mourning and remembrance.
The agency stated, “Moonbin suddenly became a star in the sky, leaving us. It is even more heartbreaking to deliver such sudden news to fans who have supported and loved Moonbin unreservedly. Knowing the heart of the deceased, who always loved and cherished fans more than anyone else, makes it even more heartbreaking.“
In accordance with the wishes of the family, the funeral was held privately. Fantagio provided a memorial space at its headquarters for fans and industry colleagues to pay their respects. Moonbin’s younger sister Moon Sua, who is currently active as a member of Billlie, along with ASTRO’s Cha Eunwoo, Seventeen’s Seungkwan, VIVIZ’s SinB and more visited the memorial space, reminiscing about the memories they shared with the deceased.
The memorial space, which operated until Moonbin’s 49th day since death, was relocated to Namhansanseong Fortress. The agency explained, “After careful consultation with the bereaved family, we have prepared an external memorial space so that AROHAs, who have always shown generous love, can give Moonbin warm greetings a little longer.“
Although Moonbin’s religion was not Buddhism, at the request of the family, a space called “Moon’s Space” was created in one area of Namhansanseong Fortress. As Cha Eunwoo and Sanha were the first to visit, fans followed suit, and the longing for the late Moonbin continued.
As the one-year anniversary of Moonbin’s passing approaches, the foot traffic of those remembering him continues at the Namhansanseong Fortress. Moonbin’s fans have set up placards with messages like “Thank you for being a singer, Bin“, “To our Moon who will forever shine, always thinking of you“, creating a space of love and longing for the late Moonbin. This space will be operated until April 21st.
