Moon Ga-young achieved a major career milestone by winning Best Actress in the film category at the Baeksang Arts Awards for her very first screen debut performance.

The prestigious ceremony was held on May 8 at COEX in Seoul, hosted by Shin Dong-yup, Bae Suzy, and Park Bo-gum.

Founded in 1965, the Baeksang Arts Awards celebrates achievements across South Korean popular culture and entertainment. This year’s event also introduced a new musical theater category in honor of the 60th anniversary of Korean musicals, expanding the ceremony’s recognition across television, film, theater, and musicals.

Moon Ga-young earned the Best Actress trophy for her performance in Once We Were Us, competing against powerhouse nominees including Lee Hye-young for The Old Woman with the Knife, Son Ye-jin for No Other Choice, and Go Ah-sung for Pavane.

Taking the stage with visible emotion, Moon Ga-young first thanked the film’s staff, agency, and fellow actors.

She especially mentioned co-star Koo Kyo-hwan, saying: “Just like he once said that we continued acting for each other even in moments unseen on screen, this award also belongs to senior Koo Kyo-hwan. Thank you for being such a strong support system for me.”

The actress then reflected on her long career journey, sharing that this year marks the 20th anniversary of her debut.

“I want to thank every connection and every person who crossed paths with me and helped make me who I am today,” she said. “This year marks exactly my 20th anniversary, and I will continue working hard so I can grow into someone I can proudly look back on.”

Moon Ga-young also expressed gratitude toward audiences who supported the film.
