Min Hee Jin’s Flexing Comment About NewJeans’ Success Sparks Outrage Among Boy Group Fans

Once again, Min Hee Jin, the "mother of NewJeans" has sparked a war among fandoms.

On May 31, Ador CEO Min Hee Jin held her second press conference to share her thoughts on HYBE’s general meeting of shareholders. Earlier that day, during the shareholder meeting, HYBE dismissed Min Hee Jin‘s close associates and established a new board of directors nominated by HYBE.

In contrast to her fatigued appearance at the first press conference, Min Hee Jin showed more energy this time in a bright yellow outfit, with a touch of makeup. She continued to express her personal views, but in a less harsh manner, and thanked those who have always supported her and NewJeans.

However, one of Min Hee Jin’s remarks upset some fans. Specifically, she confidently claimed that NewJeans’ achievements in their first two years were equivalent to what top boy groups achieved in five or seven years: “The profits I made in two years with Ador are what top boy groups earn in five or seven years. This is the first time a girl group has achieved such a feat within two years of debut. I cannot understand the use of the term ‘betrayal’ for a subsidiary CEO who has achieved such results.”

Although Min Hee Jin did not mention any specific group, her comment didn’t sit right with fans of male idols. Many people cited the achievements of top boy groups in a short time to counter Min Hee Jin’s statement.

For instance, EXO had a global hit with “Growl” just one year after their debut and followed it with a string of hits that solidified their top position. BTS, despite a rocky start, eventually achieved worldwide success, becoming a top global group. BIGBANG and Super Junior achieved success right from their debuts…

As for NewJeans, it’s undeniable that their debut allowed them to sweep through K-pop like a storm, with hit songs from the start that impressed many. Just one year after their debut, NewJeans were named in the top Daesang category at year-end award ceremonies, a rare feat for rookies.

However, some pointed out that while NewJeans excels in digital music, they cannot match the boy groups in tour revenues or album sales. Furthermore, the top boy groups Min Hee Jin mentioned have been active for five, seven years, or more.

Meanwhile, NewJeans, in their third year, are already struggling with conflicts between Min Hee Jin and HYBE. Additionally, netizens reminded Min Hee Jin that without BTS, NewJeans might not have been born.

  • “Isn’t she referring to the group that created HYBE? (BTS) Without that boy group, NewJeans wouldn’t exist, and she’s here bragging about them like this!”
  • “Idols’ main revenue comes from albums and tours, but NewJeans hasn’t toured, and their album sales surely can’t match top boy groups!”
  • “If they weren’t under HYBE, they would flop. They received enormous investment, massive media coverage as ‘BTS’s sister,’ their MVs were posted on HYBE’s channel with over 70M followers, and yet she brags about them like it’s all their own doing.”
  • “She could have explained it normally, but she chose to offend other groups.”
