On December 6 last year, Miho Nakayama was found dead in the bathroom of her home in Shibuya, Tokyo. She was 54.

She had been scheduled to perform a concert in Osaka on the same day but canceled due to health concerns. When she failed to report to work afterward, a staff member from her agency visited her home, where Nakayama was discovered collapsed in the bathroom.

Her agency, Big Apple, later stated—citing the autopsy results—that “there was no indication of foul play, and the cause was determined to be an unfortunate accident that occurred while bathing.” No suicide note or external injuries were found at the scene. Japanese media also raised the possibility of heat shock, a sudden change in body temperature leading to rapid fluctuations in blood pressure.
Born in 1970, Miho Nakayama was a celebrated actress and singer. She earned widespread popularity in Korea and across Asia through Shunji Iwai’s 1995 film Love Letter, which remains a classic to this day.
