Michelle Yeoh becomes the first Asian to win Best Actress at the Oscars

The 95th Academy Awards was held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles (LA) on March 13th (KST).

On this day, Michelle Yeoh received the Oscar trophy by defeating candidates such as Cate Blanchett, Andrea Riseborough, Ana de Armas and Michelle Williams.

No Asian has won the Best Actress award at the Oscars so far.

In the case of the Best Supporting Actress award, Miyoshi Umeki (Japan), who appeared in “Sayonara”, won this award for the first time at the 30th Academy Awards in 1958, and Youn Yuh Jung of “Minari” won at the 93rd Academy Awards in 2021.

Michelle Yeoh said, “For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof that dreams – dream big, and dreams do come true.

She then received applause by saying, “And ladies, don’t let anybody tell you you are ever past your prime. Never give up.

She added, “I have to dedicate this to my mom, all the moms in the world. Because they are really superheroes. And without them, none of us will be here tonight. This is history in the making. Thank you.
