On May 24, Mir uploaded a short-form clip through his family YouTube channel “Banggane,” showing himself spending time with his wife and mother-in-law during an outing.
In the video, Mir casually said, “Our mother-in-law bought me herbal medicine because I’ve been struggling lately.”
His mother-in-law responded warmly, saying she wanted him to stay healthy so he could continue taking good care of her daughter.
However, controversy later emerged because Mir repeatedly used the term “jangmo” (장모) instead of the more formal and respectful “jangmonim” (장모님), which is commonly used in Korean culture when addressing one’s mother-in-law.
The issue quickly sparked divided reactions among Korean netizens.
Some criticized the idol, arguing that respectful honorifics should still be used regardless of how close family members are.

Comments such as “Shouldn’t he say jangmonim?” and “Even if you’re comfortable, family titles should remain respectful” spread online.
Others, however, defended Mir and viewed the expression as harmless.
Many fans pointed out that some Korean families use more casual speech naturally between close relatives and argued that the wording simply reflected familiarity and affection rather than disrespect.
As the debate continued growing online, the original video was reportedly deleted from YouTube.
