“Mask Girl” gets mixed responses a day after its release: “amazing directing” VS “original webtoon is better”

Netflix’s new original series “Mask Girl” receives divided reactions from viewers.

Netflix’s “Mask Girl” is based on a webtoon of the same name (written by Mae Mi/ illustrated by Hee Se). It depicts the story of Kim Mo Mi, an officer worker with an appearance complex who works as an Internet broadcasting BJ covering her face with a mask every night, getting caught up in an unintended incident.

Episode 1 portrays the story of Kim Mo Mi carrying out activities as the Mask Girl. In episode 2, the story of Joo Oh Nam (Ahn Jae Hong), who is a big fan of Mo Mi and also her co-worker, is unveiled, captivating viewers with its interesting setting.

Due to the nature of the drama’s genre, cruel scenes are sometimes included. Therefore, reactions with both likes and dislikes have already been predicted.

If the original webtoon tells the story through the perspective of Kim Mo Mi alone, the drama adaptation introduces its story through the viewpoints of various characters. In particular, it is the acting performance of Lee Han Byeol, Nana, Go Hyun Jung, and Ahn Jae Hong that enriches the story.

After watching the drama, many viewers gave favorable reviews, such as “The director did a great job in directing the scenes”, “I finished all the episodes continuously without realizing the time”, “I felt more immersed in the drama because this story is really likely to happen in real life”, etc.

Director Kim Young Hoon of “Beasts Clawing at Straws” took the megaphone for “Mask Girl”. Some praised the director’s visual directing and the acting of the cast, especially Ahn Jae Hong.

However, some netizens who already read the webtoon expressed disappointment, pointing out that the lengthy development made them feel bored.

Receiving mixed responses on the first day of its release, “Mask Girl” is available on Netflix with a total of seven episodes.
