According to My Daily, following several meetings prompted by the recent large-scale fire in Hong Kong, the 2025 MAMA Awards have decided to proceed as scheduled and will not be canceled. However, the organizers announced that the event will be held in a more solemn and subdued atmosphere compared to what was originally planned.
The organizers release an official statement
Hello, this is the MAMA AWARDS Secretariat.
We are taking the seriousness of the current fire situation in the Tai Po region of Hong Kong very seriously, and the MAMA AWARDS organizing committee is rapidly discussing appropriate response measures for each category.
In addition to official responses related to the awards ceremony and event operations, we are also carefully reviewing matters concerning artist performances and award presentation scripts. We will share updates as soon as everything is finalized.
To prevent confusion and ensure accurate communication, we kindly ask for your cooperation in directing all external media and public inquiries through the CJ ENM and Mnet communications team.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for the concern caused to all artists and related parties, and the organizing committee will carefully review the situation and work to determine the best possible course of action.
Thank you.

Legendary actors Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh publicly announced their withdrawal from their scheduled appearance as award presenters. Their statements emphasized compassion over celebration: “Let public attention focus on rescue efforts instead.”
Before that, concerns have arisen over the status of the 2025 MAMA Awards following a massive apartment fire tragedy in Hong Kong. According to industry sources on November 27, the production team has entered “emergency meetings” since the previous night to evaluate whether the ceremony can proceed as planned.
The devastating fire occurred on November 26 (local time) in a northern Hong Kong high-rise residential complex, resulting in a catastrophic loss of life. Dozens have been confirmed dead, with many more critically injured or missing, prompting the event organizers to reassess the feasibility and safety of holding the large-scale awards ceremony.
This year’s MAMA Awards is scheduled to take place on November 28 and 29 at Kai Tak Stadium—located only around 20 kilometers from the fire site—raising further concerns regarding logistics, safety, and public sentiment.
As of the latest updates from Hong Kong authorities, the fire has claimed 44 lives, while 45 individuals remain in critical condition, and 279 residents are still missing after being presumed trapped inside the buildings. Of the seven affected residential towers, four were extinguished after 10 hours, but the remaining three continued to burn even 16 hours after the initial outbreak.

The Hong Kong government has raised the fire alert level to Tier 5, the highest possible, marking the first time since the 2008 Mong Kok nightclub fire that such a level has been declared.
