SM Entertainment has revealed plans to debut a new boy group named MYTRO, diverging from the typical K-pop scene by focusing on trot music—a genre that traditionally appeals to older audiences.
What sets MYTRO apart is not just its musical style; the group also boasts an average age of 28.4, making its members older than the usual debuting idols. Among the members are familiar faces, including Shohei, who was previously expected to join NCT before suffering an injury, and Seo Woohyeok, known for playing the younger version of Son Myeong-Oh in The Glory.
Another notable member is Han Taei (Tey), who debuted with the third-generation group MR.MR in 2012. Interestingly, MR.MR has a history that includes releasing a diss track aimed at their current label, SM Entertainment.
In 2014, Girls’ Generation launched their mini-album Mr. Mr., shortly before MR.MR released a self-titled single. The lyrics of MR.MR’s song were interpreted by some as a diss toward Girls’ Generation’s popularity, with lines reflecting feelings of inadequacy and frustration.
Lee Sung-Ho, the former CEO of MR.MR’s label, confirmed that the diss was directed at SM Entertainment rather than Girls’ Generation, criticizing SM for overshadowing MR.MR in online searches and media presence. He articulated his concerns about the power dynamics between major and smaller agencies, emphasizing the need for fair treatment in the industry.
Now, years later, Han Taei finds himself as a member of MYTRO under SM Entertainment—a surprising turn of events that many fans may not have anticipated!
