Male Idol Removed from Groups Twice: Unable to Mend with Former Members after 8 Years
Daesung recently had a conversation with Jang Hyunseung, who almost became a BIGBANG member but later debuted with B2ST.
Recently, former B2ST (also known as BEAST) member Jang Hyunseung became a guest on BIGBANG’s Daesung’s YouTube program called “ZIP (Home) Daesung”.
It is known that Hyunseung had trained alongside G-Dragon, Seungri, T.O.P, Daesung, and Taeyang for many years and almost debuted with BIGBANG, only to be eliminated just before the group’s debut.
In the program “The Big Bang Documentary,” YG founder Yang Hyun-suk revealed that Hyunseung was dropped because his facial expressions were not polished. Despite not debuting together, the male idol still maintains a close relationship with the BIGBANG members.
In the program, Daesung began with the comment, “Jang Hyunseung was unfortunately eliminated from ‘The Big Bang Documentary’. After that, we didn’t keep in touch much either. I am introverted and not the type to exchange friendly messages with others, so this might be our first long conversation since that project.”
Later, Daesung mentioned past conflicts between Jang Hyunseung and the members of B2ST (known as HIGHLIGHT after the group’s departure from Cube).
“It seems that while other members are active under the new name HIGHLIGHT, there are rumors that B2ST will be reorganized with Jang Hyunseung and two others”, he said
Hearing this, Hyunseung immediately clarified, “I had absolutely no idea about that plan. It’s true that I was still with the company at that time, but no one informed me about anything. I only found out the news when I woke up in the morning.”
Then, when Daesung asked if the other members also heard about it through the media, Jang Hyunseung shared, “I think so. Maybe the members thought I had something to do with that decision, but it was all just a misunderstanding.”
Responding to the question of if he thought about mending with the B2ST members and opening up about past events, Hyunseung said, “It’s been quite a while, hasn’t it? I always wanted open conversations, but no one has made a full effort to make that happen.”
Hearing this, Daesung expressed empathy, saying, “Becoming a part of a group is really not an easy thing, right?”
On the other hand, after failing to debut with BIGBANG, Jang Hyunseung joined CUBE and officially debuted with B2ST in 2009. He was also a part of the sexy duo “Trouble Maker” with HyunA and even released a solo album. However, in April 2016, CUBE confirmed that Hyunseung officially left B2ST to pursue solo activities.
Nevertheless, after leaving B2ST, Hyunseung almost froze his activities until leaving CUBE in 2021. He then moved to a new company and continued his activities under the stage name ABLE.
Hyunseung is now active under the stage name ABLE
After leaving Cube, B2ST continued their activities under the name HIGHLIGHT due to the old group name being trademarked by Cube. However, the group has regained the rights to use “B2ST” (and BEAST) in 2024.
