Live vocals of JYP girl groups when they first debuted: ITZY and NMIXX outperform TWICE?

How well do JYP girl groups sing live in their performances of the debut songs?

JYP’s latest girl group NMIXX has been drawing more positive comments from the public since they started music show promotions. Although “O.O” is a difficult song to pull off with many high notes, NMIXX still confidently sang 100% live on their first stage. This has impressed netizens.

Compared to NMIXX’s senior labelmates TWICE and ITZY, let’s see which JYP girl group showcased the best live vocals as newly debuted rookies.

TWICE

Since their debut, TWICE has not been an idol group that is highly appreciated for their live singing skills. TWICE tends to rely on pre-recorded backtrack and only sing over the recording to avoid making vocal mistakes. The group was caught lip-syncing on many music show stages. On their debut stage on M!Countdown, TWICE didn’t sing 100% live, but fans could still hear the members’ raw vocals through MR Removed.

If the trio of main and lead vocals Jihyo, Nayeon and Jeongyeon sounded clear, stable and barely made any mistakes, Sana disappointed netizens because she was lip-syncing throughout the entire performance. The rap-line Chaeyoung and Dahyun were also not confident enough as their parts were not heard clearly. Among the members, Nayeon left the strongest first impression thanks to her stable live vocals despite having the most lines.

ITZY

ITZY also did not sing completely live on their first stage on M!Countdown. However, in the following debut stages, the group managed to flaunt their stable live vocals. Although the choreography for DALLA DALLA is difficult and tiring with a fast tempo, most members performed their parts well while singing live.

Surprisingly, the member who did the worst was main vocalist Lia. Lia’s singing came under quite a lot of negative reactions when ITZY first debuted, as she often sounded out of breath and rhythm. However, the fact that ITZY sang live most of the time during their debut promotions helped them earn many compliments. Among 4th generation girl groups, ITZY may not have the strongest vocalists, but the members’ live vocals are what make them stand out.

NMIXX

Proudly introduced by JYP as an All-Ace group (7 dance, 7 vocal, 7 visual), NMIXX really made the audience look forward to the group’s first performance on the M!Countdown stage. And the girls haven’t disappointed us.

Not only confident to have a 100% live stage, but NMIXX also almost reached the highest level of perfection. Some people commented that NMIXX‘s vocals make the melody of the song ‘O.O’ clearer and easier to listen to, proving that the quality of JYP‘s new girl group deserves a score of 10.

Originally, the song ‘O.O’ was a difficult and experimental challenge. The song has received mixed reactions from netizens after its release for not being a catchy product like TWICE‘s Like OOH-AHH or ITZY‘s DALLA DALLA.  However, NMIXX still performed it perfectly in 2 consecutive stages. The performance on the Music Bank stage was considered better. Their energy on this stage was so overwhelming that it shocked the viewers!

Thus, it can be seen that the vocal ability of the JYP’s new girl groups tend to get better with each generation. If TWICE has so many shortcomings that they have to depend on pre-recorded audio, ITZY shows stable skills even though the vocals of some members are judged quite differently. When it comes to NMIXX, there is nothing to criticize and it turns out that JYP did not exaggerate when confidently introducing the group as All-Ace! NMIXX has now become a famous opponent of aespa!

Has the disaster first encore stage of TWICE in the past been the motivation for JYP to put vocal skills as the top criterion when choosing a debut lineup for NMIXX?
